Eight international references — from Scotland, Japan, Ireland, the United States, and beyond — to traverse the great traditions of whisky and understand what terroir, grain, still, and time do to a spirit. You will explore how every choice — barley or rye, peat or its absence, the nature of the maturation casks (sherry, wine, bourbon, rum, mezcal, stout, port, and many others), as well as the time spent in the cellar — shapes aromatic profiles of astonishing diversity. From the smoky and iodized peats of Islay to the silky and floral expressions of Japan, passing through the vanilla power of American ryes, you will refine your palate and build your own framework for interpretation.
